MIM #62- Step It Up Layering

I know!  I am doing a MIM for the first time in...forever!  As soon as I saw Betsy Veldman's great video on step it up layering, I knew I wanted to try this.  Betsy's video seen here, shows a wonderful example using the same stamp sets and basic design to create three increasingly "stepped-up" cards. She made a card with one layer, a second card which was slightly layered and lastly,  a card with lots of layers and elements.
Here is my single layer card:
I used PTI's Friendship Jar and a sentiment from Think Big #7 colored with copic markers.  It is fun to use a stamp set that you haven't used in a while, and I had forgotten how much fun it is to color that great big daisy image.  One layer;  I can't think of a single card I have made in the last year that was only one layer.  It felt almost "naked" when I was done, but I knew my next card could have some paper-piecing and other elements to step it up a bit.
Here is my second card:
Same stamp set, same sentiment, but this one has embossing with a cuttlebug folder on the cardbase, a Cheery Lynn Japanese Lace frame (thanks to my friend Jeanne Jachna) popped up flowers, stickles and the sentiment is stamped on a vellum strip.  I also added a little twine bow around the jar.

Which one do you like the best?  You might be surprised to know that I like the "naked" card the best!
Make sure you check out Betsy's video and all the other stepped up cards on Nichole's blog.  Here's the link.

Flawless execution Madame. Even though that Cheery Lynn oval is out of this world fab, I kind of prefer the first card too. Both divine, but I love the charm and simplicity of the Ball jar and the alluring daisies alone. I feel as though I want to touch it. Beautiful work as always Cathy. So inspiring!

I really like both but maybe the second one a tad bit more. I am usually drawn to one layer cards but the oval frame is just so gorgeous. Great job stepping it up!

Both are so lovely. But everything you added makes the second one gorgeous!

Cathy I really like both cards, the pink daisies are wonderful. I love all the texture on the second card, but the twine wrapped around the jar lid is genius!

Yay for you, finally getting to the Make it Monday. I love both cards, and now need to go back and check my friendship jar set. I love that flower image, and didn't even know I had it. Super job with the simple and stepped up version. You will probably not be surprised to know that I prefer the first card, but really do love them both.

Both versions are amazing--I can't possibly pick a favorite! I love the simplicity of the first one, but the added details on the stepped-up version are just right. Beautiful job, Cathy!
