12 Kits of Occasions: May with Joyce

Today is the last day of the month and our 12 Kits of Occasions group has some nautical/masculine cards to share with you.  Our hostess this month is Joyce Mehrberg of Cards by the Sea and what fun it was digging into the great big envelope of materials Joyce prepared for us.  Here's a little peek of our kit before we all dug in and scavenged through it.

With lots and lots of ideas swirling through my head, I decided I had better make a few Father's Day cards while I have absolutely no excuse to make a nice masculine card.  Honestly, these cards did practically put themselves together.

First up...the card I am going to give to my husband, despite the fact that he always tells me, "He's not my Father".  Seriously.  Every. Single. Year.  Wonder what he would do if I ever decided to acknowledge that fact and not give him a card?

I love the rope trims Joyce stamped for us and the very touching sentiment from Waltzingmouse Stamps.

The second card goes to my own Dad.

Joyce sent this A2 sized panel with Dad stamped and another sentiment on the lower half.  I covered up that sentiment with a stamped banner and make a very quick and easy card I am sure my Dad will like.
Nothing too fussy for him.

This card is going to my son who is going to be a first time father next Fall.  I loved the balsa sailboat that Joyce included in our kit along with the geometrical cover up die cut.

My last card is a masculine birthday card.
I layered the Papertrey Ink Text block die cut over some cork that Joyce included in our kit. I love that die, it makes a great card without even having to stamp a sentiment.  The banners were cut from a piece of the patterned paper that Joyce included in our kit.

Want to see more from the 12 Kits of Occasions group?  Head on over to the 12 Kits of Occasions blog so you can hop around to see what the rest of the team has done with Joyce's May kit.

All the supplies are listed on the 12 Kits of Occasions blog under the tab Monthly Kit Supplies 2014 here.

We have two guest designers joining us this month.. Lindsay from Occasional Crafting and Sherrie from A Little Bit of Everything Me.  Make sure you stop by their blogs and see what they have done with Joyce's kit!

My husband says the very same thing every single year as well. Also reminds me I am not his mother!
Love these Cathy, you will see I have a lot that look a bit similar to yours. Thats what happens when the kit is self made cards. Love the cork with the banner flags! Beautiful cards!

when I saw your email, I told myself not to look, because I am not done with my cards and have not written my post. But, it was just too tempting, so I had to come over here and take a peek. EEK--I love what you did with everything. I think the most brilliant is the cork behind that birthday text die. I completely forgot about that one, and part of my own kit got lost. I'll be making one of those for sure. Wonderful set of cards, and I am laughing that you were such an eager beaver you posted early.

Oh my Cathy...love each and everyone of your cards! Your last card is my favorite of the bunch, your flags look so nice over the happy birthday, so fun. They all are fabulous and as always, so happy to have left overs! Enjoy your weekend.

They're all fabulous!!
And I can just hear Warren telling you that! :)
Just a gorgeous collection but really lovin' those flags...
and while I didn't save the die cut I did save the flag paper so happy that I now know what I can do! :)
A wonderful collection with Joyce's fabulous kit! :)

Wow, Cathy-these are all fantastic! Using two different background papers with the cover plate was a fabulous idea. And I love your last card! Framing the die cut on the cork and the flags make an awesome design.

Hi Cathy! Love your cards - the rope borders on the first are so clever - the second so CAS - that bit of twine under the lifesaver (where you can see it through the die cut hole), how you split the colors behind the fancy die cut background and those fussy cut banners hanging on the last. You did so many things I didn't even think of - a fresh look at the kit with so many interesting things for me to try!

Cathy amazing cards, so many things I didn't think of. I LOVE the way you cut the two type of rope on the first card, the clever mask of the sentiment on your second with the twine and life saver treatment, splitting the cover plate background and your creative banner bday card! Lots of inspiration.

Cathy, I always love seeing how you use the kits, and this is no exception. I love how you used the borders...I didn't know what to do with them aside from cutting one out, but now I know what to do with the rest of the sheet. :) I also had to smile when I saw you cut the little banner flags out, too. I'm amazed at how you combined so many elements on each card...all to perfection. So inspiring!
