1st PTI Scrapbook Page

Today I tried something I have never done, use PTI products to make a scrapbook page. I usually buy patterned paper and other pre-made embellishments, but since I have invested so much into my stamping materials as well as have been inspired by Kelly Purkey, Dawn McVey, Michelle Wooderson, Erin Lincoln and Heather Nichols, I just forced myself to try to make a page without heading out to Michael's first. I had a piece of yellow 12 x 12 paper. I stamped random Dot Spot images in Versamark, aqua mist, sweet blush and vintage cream. I embossed them with either silver or clear embossing powder. This is the first time I have ever embossed and liked the result. The trick to it was using the embossing buddy or little bag filled with powder to swipe across the page before I added the embossing powder. This is the first time that I haven't had lots and lots of little flecks all over the page. I wish I had thought to take a picture of the paper before I glued all the pictures on it. It was really pretty. I printed out some pictures from my son's wedding last July and matted them on some smokey shadow and aqua mist papers. I used a rub-on sentiment for the title and zig zag stitched it. I added a little scalloped border with some aqua mist buttons tied with white twine for some variety. I stamped a couple of journaling tags using the new PTI fillable frame #1 and a scalloped circle from Take Note. Matt and Katie can fill in what they remember of that moment (if they can remember anything, they were both so nervous). I am really happy with how this page turned out although I think it is a little plain and "organized". I love the look of the "pros" who make their pages look more candid and free-flowing. I'll work on that in the future.

For the February Blog Hop I knew exactly which card had inspired me the most this month. I loved the cute little Egg Hunt card that Erin Lincoln made for this month's anniversary. Here is Erin's card followed by my own spin on the Easter Basket Card. http://erinlincoln.blogspot.com/2010/02/egg-hunt.html. I was so lucky that my PTI order arrived just in time to use the Tin Type Background for my little basket. (By the way, this is the easiest background I have ever stamped. ) Erin was nice enough to post a tutorial on her blog about how to make the basket using oval nestabilities and Spellbinder tags. For this card, I made the basket just as Erin did using Dark Chocolate ink stamped on a Kraft background. I cut out some eggs with the Egg Hung patterned paper using oval nestabilities. I tried a little of Michelle Wooderson's "messy stitching" in yellow as a frame around the basket. At the last minute I cut some grass from New Leaf paper and a little lemon tart pinked circle with the Happy Easter sentiment. Did you notice the little bunny hiding in the grass? I had to have a bunny on an Easter card. Since I was anxious to try my new Butterfly Dreams stamps, I stamped one of the medium size butterflies with Plum Pudding ink and added some Prisma Glitter for sparkle. Lavender Moon Birthday

Today I got a set I have been wanting for a long time, Everyday Button Bits. I love the little flowers and thought they would look pretty springing from a flower bed. I used a base of kraft cardstock with a piece of lavender moon with rounded corners layered over it. I added a strip of plum pudding vertically and made added some white zig zag stitches. I stamped a little flower bed with Polka Dot Basics II in Dark Chocolate. I free cut the flower bed and adhered the back row. I stamped the flower image with New Leaf ink, stamping two of the leaves on some cream cardstock to be paper pieced onto the stamped leaf images. I added the buttons, some with kraft colored twine. I stamped the sentiment in Dark Chocolate ink below the flower bed and added the top layer of the flower bed on foam. I added a piece of plum pudding stamped with Wish Big in versamark layered over a mat of dotted dark chocolate. Love the way it turned out.

Polka Dot Pieces

I'm having a hard time concentrating on anything except the new PTI release tomorrow night, but today I made a simple card for Betsy Veldman's paper piecing challenge. I had just watched Dawn McVey's video about how to cut out embellishments and decided to give the flowers in the In Bloom patterned paper a try at cutting them out. I don't have the In Bloom stamp set, so the smaller flowers in the patterned paper were what I had to work with. I started with kraft cardstock and stamped an outline polka dot basics grouping of dots in enchanted evening ink, I then used a hole puncher to punch out berry sorbet, ripe avocado and enchanted evening dots of both In bloom paper and the same colors of regular cardstock. I glued them into the dots with a quickie glue pen. I separated the colors with strips of enchanted evening cardstock. I cut out the two flower and one leaf images and popped them up with foam and embossed the sentiment with white detail powder. One little rhinestone finished the card off. See you all tomorrow night at the release party.

TerraCotta Birthday

Hey Everybody: I had such a good day today. It was a holiday from work and I didn't leave the house except to accept a UPS package from PTI. Whoo Hoo! Lots of buttons and some paper so I have an empty shopping cart to get ready for the new release on the 15th. Today I made a quick little card using Baby Button Bits. Nothing fancy, but I love how it turned out. I am slowly but surely building up my paper and embellishment supply and love how many options I now have. This has been a really good week, lots of time to make cards and surf all the great blogs out there.

Look Who's Turning 1

I wasn't satisfied with my last card. I loved the color combo but didn't like the size of the Label 4 compared with the rest of the card. I re-worked it and made the card slightly bigger (A6) and used some melon berry cardstock as an additional frame around the image and embossed the bottom half of the card with a cuttlebug embossing folder. When I photographed the card I added a picture of my absolutely adorable great-niece Hayley (wow, does that make me feel old) who turns 1 on Feb 15. She was born early and only weighed exactly 3lbs. As you can see she has caught up and has brought so much joy to our family. This Women of Life image reminds me of Spring and I am going to have a hard time not using it on most of my cards.

February Flowers

This is the only card I have made this week. I made a stamp trade with Sandy Dawes aka Little Mabel on the Papertreyink Forum. She sent me her Women of Life and I sent her Vintage Picnic. This card is just a little thank you to her. She sent me a really cute card using Honey Bee Sentiments that I have posted here also. My card uses the newly traded stamp set, Women of Life. I stamped the flower image in Raspberry Fizz and filled in the flower centers with hibiscus burst and terracotta tile. The stems are in ripe avocado. I used a little glitter pen on the leaves and in the center of each flower petal. I used my new Martha Stewart punch to edge the raspberry fizz layer and cut the flower image out with a Spellbinder Labels 4. I think next time I would cut a smaller mat with the label and show the whole decorative border. Oh well, next time. I edged the label with a hot green lipstick stamp. A few pink rhinestones and a little decorative border strip on the inside of the card finished it off. I have sure been enjoying the Papertreyink anniversary festivities all week and am looking forward to the rest of the anniversary. Thanks again Sandy.
